With the release of his irresistible new single ‘SFX’, rising Northeast artist Tom A. Smith continues to showcase this groovy, almost post-punky direction that he has been pushing his sound in while radiating a swagger and sense of composure that feels impossible not to get swept up in as you lose yourself within his sounds.
We have been covering Tom for a while now and feel that his recent output is the best and most interesting that he has ever put his name to, marring slick indie hooks with a liberating, fearless energy that harks back to the idiosyncratic appeal of bands like Do Nothing and Franz Ferdinand. Thematically, the track serves as something of a shield to mask from insecurities and hang-ups through a sound and style that projects the kind of feel that you wish you felt like you had, and it does a masterful job of getting this across, making for one of the most stylish singles to come from the scene in 2026 so far.
“I wanted this song to have a confidence that I ordinarily lack when it comes to body image,” Tom explains. “I know I’m definitely not alone when finding it hard to ignore your own insecurities. SFX is three minutes where I can dance and feel a bit better about myself, so hopefully anyone listening can do the same.”
