The soaring and momentous new track feels like a statement release from the exciting artist.

Powerful, captivating, resonating, cathartic. All words that can aptly be used to describe ‘NUN’, the all-encompassing new single from queer songwriter and producer TOMI.

The track is packed full of intrigue and depth, exploring the artist’s struggles and eventual emergence as a unabashed, unashamed lesbian, having freed herself from the shackles of shame and confinement imposed on her by her Catholic upbringing. The shocking nature of the visuals of the video (viewer discretion is definitely advised), and the sheer emotion and heart that is poured into the vocals and the larger than life soundscape reinforces this message of liberation and freedom, serving as a moment of complete and utter catharsis both for the artist and hopefully for listeners that carry around similar burdens with them. I’m willing to bet that no piece of art surrounding lesbian nuns has ever felt so affecting and powerful, and the message coupled with the ferocious and intoxicating sound make for a truly emphatic statement.

“I grew up catholic going to church every Sunday and catholic school during the week. When I came out as a lesbian I carried a lot of shame and guilt with me,” says TOMI’s Pam Autuori. “I was living in New York City and was feeling the chaos of dating and heartbreak and partying. I was starting to fall in love with a woman and my emotions were bonkers. I wrote NUN to cope with those feelings – daydreaming about giving it all up (love, music, chaos) and becoming a NUN.”
