Having bowled us over with his first single of the year in the form of ‘Home Now’, lauded Arkansas indie pop artist Trevor Phelps is back with the more considered and leisurely paced ‘Old Friend’, a track with an innate sense of nostalgia to it as the artist imagines what what his younger self would say to him now.
The easy-going nature of the sound and affable melodies makes for a really charming and nice listening experience that is packed full of catchy charm and patient warmth that feels immersive throughout. The track takes a careful look at ideas like growing older and time passes by, watching your ideals and goals shift over time without you ever really noticing along the way, Trevor embraces this throughout, not fretting about the future or these changes and having a real sense of gratitude that runs through its core.
“As we get older, we spend a lot of time reflecting on who we used to be, but I wanted to explore what it would feel like if that younger version of me could see where I ended up.” Trevor says. “The song is filled with the expectations, dreams, and questions I had growing up, while acknowledging how much life changes the further you get from those moments.”
