Vancouver indie rock outfit Uncle Strut are now well established for their funk-laden tunes that fizz and pop with an infectious sense of energy and guile, but have opted to slow things down a little on their seventh release, the thoughtful, loved up ‘Corduroy Queen’.
The track has a stripped back feel that just adds to the vulnerable and earnest nature of the sound and the lyrics. Built around the story of a first date, the track showcases a very real and human side to an outfit that largely feel altogether more bombastic and larger than life. This is a rousing move from the outfit, highlighting another facet to their sound, and masterfully demonstrating the way that their unique, charming charisma still shines through, regardless of the volume.
