Packed full of atmospheric appeal and emotional resonance, the artist’s latest single ‘Harley Queen’ is a track that encompasses everything that the makes the artist feel so special. Operating harmonies work together with a moody yet intoxicating soundscape that feels both vintage and forward-thinking, confounding in its execution and contradicting in its nature, but effortlessly captivating and compelling, and easy to find yourself enchanted by as a listener. The track explores the theme of having big dreams and confidence to match, and this seems to echo and parallel with the artist’s own journey, despite the heartbreak and fascination that the narrative finds along the way.
“I wrote ‘Harley Queen’ early 2021 in New York,” Vasilikí says. “I was sitting in my bedroom in Washington Heights and I started playing around with some melodies. All of a sudden I had written half of the song without even realizing it. I felt like there were many unexpressed emotions that found their way on a piece of paper that night. I then passed on my ideas to my favorite human and producer, Stavros. We kept working on it for a long time, but it wasn’t until I recorded the operatic harmonies that it felt like the song made sense. It was like it started living in a world of its own and that is what I was aiming for.”
