The brand new single is the third in a trilogy of tracks about unrequited love from the exciting Ottowa duo
The variety and scope of their fun indie pop sound means that we (hopefully) never run out of things to talk about when it comes to Ottowa duo Wotts, with energetic new single ‘PETALS’ just the latest showcase of their incessantly fun appeal and charm.
The track moves like a sprint from the moment that it begins, threatening to leave you behind with its consistently fast pace and adventurous, slaloming style. The third and final in a collection of tracks that explore unrequited love, the relentless and dynamic pacing of the track does a really nice job of mirroring the rush of feelings and emotions that come with not knowing where you stand and growing restless and tired. Despite being the final track in the trilogy, there is no closure or happy ending to be found here, just a lasting pain and feeling of regret that echoes how these situations often wind up in the real world. Wotts continue to charm us and inspire us through their thoughtful sound and upbeat, catchy indie pop rhythms, and this new single might just be their most dramatic and memorable to date.
“It’s not that we haven’t poured our hearts into that element in our other songs, but we really pushed them to the limit here.” Bassist and guitarist Ricky 100 says of the track’s dramatic feel. “I think the urgency of the drums really helps capture that unhinged, frustrated energy that comes with not knowing where you stand with someone”.
