The track is a fiercely encouraging debut from the exciting artist
With the release of her debut single ‘Spell On You’, Germany based half-Japanese, UK-born singer-songwriter Yeija has showcased a really thoughtful and exciting alternative pop sound that is packed full of catchy melodies and forward-thinking pop production, making for a sound that feels both cinematic and timeless in the process.
The new release blends pop sensibilities with gorgeous orchestral touches to achieve this, making for a sound that feels dreamlike while maintaining a sense of focus and excitement throughout. ‘Spell On You’ explores the complications that come when you have to fight for love, when you have to change things and try to re-mould yourself in order to make things work. There is a comforting and uplifting feel to the soundscape though despite the sometimes somber nature of the lyrics, and it already does a great job of showcasing the multi-faceted and thoughtful appeal of the artist’s evolving sound.
“I wrote this when I was in a relationship with someone who I wanted to change. He also wanted to change, so I stayed but I lost myself in the process,” Yeija shares. “This song is like waking up from a dream. I want it to feel like a hug, because it is okay to keep trying and fighting for love over and over again… but it’s also okay to leave.”
