The British-Japanese artist claimed she was “not British enough” for Mercury and BRIT Awards

In an interview with Vice Rina Sawayama revealed that she is not eligible for awards like the Mercury and BRIT awards.

Due to restrictive citizenship laws, the 29 year old artist, who has lived in Britain for 25 years cannot be nominated for these awards, despite many nominees not being from Britain.

In the interview, she pointed out the unfairness saying “I’m signed to a UK label. I’ve lived here uninterrupted for the last 25 years. I’m only tax registered in this country”.
