J M Hatley returns with two brand new singles ‘Push’ & ‘A Thousand Wires Protuding From My Head’
Out today to coincide with Bandcamp Friday, J M Hatley unveils two brand new tracks. Former frontman of defunct psych group Palm Honey, Joseph Mumford aka the genius behind J M Hatley takes centre stage after tragedy hit.
With both new singles ‘Push‘ and ‘A Thousand Wires Protuding From My Head‘ dealing with J M Hatley’s continuous health conditions, the two new tracks come in a time of need, not only for the songwriter but for the whole world too.
J M Hatley told us, “I wrote these songs on the same day and recorded the bones of them immediately after. I don’t have a clue what I’m doing when it comes to production honestly, which is why they sound so rough. I just twiddle and distort things until it sounds kind of alright.
I actually have a bunch of much older songs for this project that have been sitting around for ages, but for some reason I felt a really strong urge to get these two songs in particular out as quickly as possible. I think they showcase the two extremes of my writing style quite nicely – ‘Push’ is very poppy and contained, whilst ‘A Thousand Wires’ is more experimental and cinematic.”
Still holding onto some form of psychedelia, both tracks are lo-fi psychedelic and accompanied by strong vocals. While ‘Push’ is bathed in fuzz sensibilities and channels a playful, indie arrangement, ‘A Thousand Wires Protuding From My Head’ is a lot more serious and features another side to J M Hatley’s stunning songwriting.
Both singles are out now, and as it’s Bandcamp Friday, all the profits go straight to the artist.
