Yulia releases her most personal and political song to date, ‘Virgin Mary’
Yulia is set to transform the European alt-pop scene once and for all. Armed with a passionate aesthetic of raw dark-pop mixed with ethereal vocals and instrumentation, Yulia’s new single ‘Virgin Mary‘ is taken from her debut EP ‘Warsaw Mule’.
Telling the story of identity crisis being a Polish girl living in London, Yulia’s energetic number uses vulnerable lyrics to convey this message.
Sharing her thoughts on the release, Yulia reflects “When I was writing Virgin Mary I instantly felt that it’s going to become an anthem of my own.
The name of the song is inspired by my Virgin Mary pendant, which is a family heirloom and, even though I’m not religious, one of my most precious possessions. In the song, I’m talking about the pressure and absolute obsession of today’s society to signal ones’ identity by using symbols, stereotypes or zodiac signs and how you can get lost within this fixation.
The song is also a testament to all the Polish people in the UK and a reflection of some of the microaggressions that I’ve faced during my time spent in London.”
Out everywhere today alongside her debut EP, Yulia will easily become a true asset to the ever-growing alt-pop music scene.
Unapologetic and fuelled with sass, get hold of the EP and get transported to a place of optimism.
