We had a chat with Ella Lockert about her heartfelt new single ‘Whisper all my secrets’
At just 18-yeard-old, Ella Lockert is already making seismic waves as a rising pop artist with a sound that feels as infectious as it does emotive, with a stellar collection of tracks to her name that signify her immense talent.
The latest single from the artist is the empowering and emotional single ‘Whisper all my secrets’, a cathartic and fierce journey of knowing that someone isn’t right for you and the internal struggle that comes with it. The track has this larger than life pop aesthetic that feels vibrant and exciting, while the real emotional depth comes from the lyrics, making for a multi-faceted and engrossing release that many will resonate with and relate to. We love the new single, had had a chat with Ella to find out some more about it and how it came together.
Hey! We love your new single ‘Whisper all my secrets’, what more can you tell us about it?
Trusting someone and being hurt over and over is such a familiar experience to so many and I wanted to explore that internal struggle and emotional tug of war when you love someone that you know isn’t good for you. And leaving is so damn hard.
What was the process like putting it together?
My co-writer Morten Franck and I started brainstorming on this idea I brought to the session. We wanted to portray the emotional ride but keep the sound up beat, and positive. I wanted people to recognize the pain, but feel the power and strength building up.
“I must remember that I’m strong, and fight back.” Find that strength, no matter how challenging it might be to act on it.
We quickly found some cool melodies, but used some time finding the right chorus. When we found the melody and the lyrics and tried recording it, we immediately knew that is was THE chorus.
Where did the inspiration come from to write something so heartfelt and emotional?
I often write songs based on my own feelings and experiences, but for this song I found most of my inspiration in one of my best friends’ current relationship. The lyrics in the verse are based on her bad days and how she has described her feelings to me.
In the chorus it’s more how I want her to feel, what I mean she should do! The production in the chorus is reflecting on the power I mean she has to find within. Know your worth!
What were your biggest influences when creating the track?
I really love Mimi Webs “House on Fire”. Her lyrics, melodies and the production. Her pop sounds, synths and the general vibe throughout her music was a big inspiration. Although for this track I also wanted some of the Olivia Rodrigo el-guitar sound. Can’t wait to perform this song with my new band. It will be fricking awesome.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I just spent a week in Copehagen, in an all Scandinavian female sonwriting camp. From there I went to play at the Sŵn festival in Cardiff. Now I am back in School, with a super catchy second single on the horizon. Both singles will be on my upcoming second EP!
