The track has a quiet euphoria to it stylistically that feels palpable throughout
On her thoughtful and absorbing single ‘Getting Older’, Liverpool indie artist Pet Snake, aka Evelyn Halls, does a great job of continuing to establish the immersive and powerful nature of her sound, even in the stripped-back form that it is presented in on the track.
The track has a reflective tone throughout, with the artist’s lyrics having a cathartic and resonating feel to them throughout as the artist takes a look back over her life and some of the experiences that she has had and how she has emerged, fully formed, out of the other side of them. There is a really potent and likeable feel to the quietly anthemic track throughout, and it evokes a feeling of euphoria and joy, feeling like the light at the end of a tunnel that has been packed full of twists and turns and challenging moments. The poignant and stirring tone of Pet Snake’s sound only amplifies these feelings, and makes for a truly compelling and intoxicating listening experience.
“Celebrating the beauty that comes with growing up and letting go.” The artist describes the track as. “Reflecting back on how far I’ve come and how although responsibilities increase as I get older so does my capability to take them on. It’s an anthem for myself to shout from the rooftops that I’m overjoyed to be alive and grateful to those who helped get me here. It’s me trying to turn my contentment into a song and the fact that I get to shout out my therapist (“and Julie said to think of that..”) goes a small amount towards the gratitude I owe her for turning my life around. Girlhouse was on repeat the whole time I was making this one.”
