The Dublin based pop artist showcases the emotional and creative wealth of their sound on their debut EP Memories
Over the last few years, Dublin based Brazilian artist Nissu has been building up to the release of their engrossing debut EP Memories, a stirring collection of tracks that delves into themes like love and life with the kind of vibrancy and creativity that has characterised their distinctive appeal, resonating with listeners and offering a plethora of feelings and emotions along the way.
The EP opens with ‘U’, a track that instantly sets the release on the right foot through its upbeat appeal and the subtle nuances of the instrumentation and soundscape, making for a thoroughly immersive and dynamic listening experience that feels as euphoric and sunny as it is lively.
The similarly colourful ‘Connection’ follows, a track that has been a favourite of the artist’s since its release back in 2024. The track explores the ties that bind us to each other and the ways that we rally around the people around us in challenging times, the pandemic being a great example. The catchiest, poppiest aspects Nissu’s sound shine on this track, and make for one of the most memorable and resonating journeys that you’re likely to hear anytime soon.
Nissu teams up with UK rapper Paigey Cakey on the third track ‘Yourself’, a wonderfully rousing and uplifting track that reinforces the artist’s message of self-love and empowerment in alluring fashion. The addition of Paige’s rapping adds a great contrast to Nissu’s more melody-oriented vocals while maintaining this emboldening message that radiates throughout the track.
The EP’s title track ‘Memories’ follows and brings more of the artist’s infectiously fun and catchy pop stylings, a reflective and nostalgic track that looks back on the journey that the artist has been through to get with where they are now and the people and experiences that have shaped who they are. From the good times to the bad, this track is a celebration of everything that has led to the path they are on now, and the thoughtful and immersive instrumentation and Nissu’s impassioned vocals articulate this perfectly.
Things take a poignant turn on ‘In My Heart’, a really powerful and moving ode to the artist’s mother that delves into deeply personal and engrossing territory, with the more stripped-back nature of the sound providing it with an added layer of intimacy and rawness as it unfolds. This makes for a real emotional highlight on an album that is packed full of them, and some of the moments that leave the biggest lasting impression on you as a listener.
The EP closes out with ‘Forever Mine’, a track that was actually the artist’s first single from the project released half a decade ago. The track is an unabashed love song that sees the artist continuing to wear their heart on their sleeve and lay their emotions on the line, a theme that has been prevalent throughout the years of their work. The track is another encapsulates everything that makes the artist’s work out stand out so much and feel so special, owing to the emotion in the delivery and the worlds and the way that the cute sonic backgrounds compliment them, rounding off an excellent EP with a trip back to the start of the artist’s journey.
