A band who were often touted as the next big thing back in the 80s but never quite got to the lofty heights that were expected of them, Too Much Joy seemed to have the world at their feet at one point, and their celebrated album Son of Sam I Am feels like the most cohesive and powerful showcase of what they were all about. Now 35 years later the band have released the : Son of Sam I Am (Tommy’s Version), a release that champions what was their greatest moment as a band.

One of the tracks from the re-release is ‘Clowns (but ska)’, a fun and ska-inflected reimagining of one of the album’s most popular tracks that bursts with energy and personality throughout. As always with ska music, it will either be very much for you, or very much not for you, but the distinctive charm and flavour that the personality and signature Too Much Joy charismatic appeal adds to the track gives it a unique slant that holds up all of these years later from the original tracks release.
