The track follows the release of their excellent recent single ‘Terminal’
A creative and multi-faceted indie pop duo who’s sound manages to skirt across a wide away of moods and sounds while always feeling stylish and packed full of character, Ontario’s Wotts are a band that we have championed and championed and championed on this site, and each new release feels like it unfolds more facets of their sound and appeal in rewarding and memorable fashion.
Their latest single ‘he spoke with conviction’ is the second single from their upcoming new EP COPE, and continues down the psychedelic and dreamy path that they have been heading out in recent times. Thematically, the track explores the lies that we tell in order to get by, and the weird places that we find ourselves in where we’re caught in between the truth and a lie and losing track of what is real and what isn’t. It makes for a compelling listening experience that feels as slick and suave as its subject matter implies, and continues to showcase their innate charm as songwriters and producers.
“We wanted the song to feel like you’re drifting between truth and illusion, a sort of hazy space where you can bury your head. Psych pop felt like the natural path for it”. Says Wotts’ Jayem, “I focused a lot on textures, almost approaching it like I was world building a dream. Warm on the surface, but with this quiet weight underneath it all”.
