Ahead of the release of her highly-anticipated upcoming album How To Perform Magic, SOFY has released the LP’s fourth single in the form of ’50/50′, a thoughtful track that sees her adopting a more indietronica-focussed style as she looks to see the brightside and live in the moment rather than overthinking.
The track has a really resonating and moving appeal to it throughout, with its chopped up piano samples offering a more hypnotic and mesmersing alternative to her usual, more guitar-driven approach and adding a whole new facet and different textures to her sound. All of these factors make for a track that is bursting with thoughtful appeal and memorable charm, continuing to showcase the ever-growing nature of SOFY and her ambitious, absorbing style.
On the track, SOFY says, “50/50 is about trying to find silver linings in uncertain circumstances. I wrote it to remind myself to live in the moment and enjoy the process for once in a while.”
“The song has been through so many iterations, we started it in Wales at the end of 2024 and it ended up something completely different (it was a guitar-led love song called ‘Salad Spinner’ at one point). It was probably the hardest song on the record to get right.”
