The celebrated artist showcases the captivating strength of her atmospheric brand of indie R&B on her sophomore EP
Here at CLOUT, we have been consistently singing the praises of emerging artist Diana Omar and the thoughtful and distinctive tone of her atmospheric sound that melds together indie pop and R&B with an engrossing charm that feels entirely her own. The release of her new sophomore EP REVERIE sees the artist continue to showcase the shimmering and intoxicating nature of her sound and the devastating consistency of her output.
The EP opens with ‘cherry blossoms’, a hypnotic and catchy, yet low-key affair that leans on the artist’s composure and slick production to create a real sense of occasion that sets the tone for the collection of tracks immaculately. Diana never has to raise her voice or do anything over the top or dramatic to command your attention, and this track is a perfect showcase of that.
This is followed by the sobering ‘reality’, an introspective and thoughtful track that sees the artist diving into her psyche, soul-searching and trying to rationalise what is real and what is less so in a world full of mirages and illusions. Once again, the atmospheric feel of the sound compliments the poignant lyrics effortlessly, and makes for a gripping and stirring listening experience that is easy to resonate with.
Themes of and feeling watched and surrounded by people are explored on ‘fishbowl’, a track that has a claustrophobic and intense feel to it throughout, complimented by gorgeous guitars and trap-influenced beats to make for a distinctive and busy feel to the track throughout. There is an almost hushed feel to these tracks that links them, almost unfolding like whispers, like the artist is telling you intimate secrets and letting you into her world.
The haunting ‘plagarize my life’ bookends the EP and reaches further into themes like isolation, and these emotions and insecurities that have surfaced throughout the collection of tracks. The softness of her vocals provides a stark contrast to the atmospheric and dramatic feel of the sound, making for this really interesting contrast that feels as enthralling as it is captivating. There is a real sense of unease that permeates the EP as a whole, steeped in personal battles and uncertainty and echoing this through the sound, making for some really relatable and resonating moments that many people will find solace and a sense of oneness with.
