Who TF is ALLYSE.?
I’m an Austin-based artist-producer-creator. Basically, I’m just a girl who’s out here tryna make fun, catchy songs that people can vibe to!
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music in one form or another since I could talk. I remember writing songs at home all the time as a kid. In school I was always super into choir, band, dance, and musical theater––anything involving music and any kind of performance. I studied music in college and played in bands for a few years when I moved to Austin, but have only been doing the solo music thing now for a little over a year now.
Why do you make music?
I just wanna write music that my younger self would hear and think was cool. I used to create music to impress other people or just write what I thought people wanted to hear; now I just write the kind of music that I’d want to listen to myself. I simply create stuff that gives me joy and if it gives others joy too, that’s amazing! But ultimately I think of a little 12-year-old me who was always writing songs in her bedroom and who dreamed of becoming a popstar––and I just want to make her proud.
What are your biggest influences?
Amelia Moore, iyla, Kehlani, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, Amber Mark.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
My last single release show was really special. It wasn’t because it was the largest show I had ever done. It was actually a small pop-up show, but it was so hype. I was surrounded by a lot of the people I love and trust the most and the whole goal of it was just to have fun and celebrate all the work that went into the song. Everyone was locked in and singing along and that feeling of community is what it’s all about.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
I usually say my music “is sugary sweet with a nasty beat” 🙂 Formally, I’d describe it as Pop R&B –– with vocally driven, catchy melodies and a bouncy, driving drums. You can definitely hear some 90’s, early 00’s pop and R&B influences in most of my songs.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
I’d love to play some larger festivals and go on tour. Performing and working off of the energy of a crowd is my favorite part and I’d love to just capture more of that magic by doing a big a** international tour.
We love your single, ‘Cherry On Top,’ what more can you tell us about it?
I actually wrote “Cherry On Top” 2 years ago, so it has been a long time in the making. The song is really flirty and upbeat but it touches on a concept that’s really important to me, which is the idea that you shouldn’t have to slow down or fundamentally change the core of who you are to be with someone. I believe the people you’re meant for are the ones who see you and appreciate the things you’re already doing and want to be part of it. It’s presented in a very lighthearted way, but the deeper message here is that the real ones don’t detract or diminish you, they only sweeten things and act as a “cherry on top” of your life.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
Right now I’m planning on a few collabs I’m very excited about. I’m also releasing 2 new singles this fall! Stay tuned for more music soon!
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
My husband Joel is my biggest fan and my most loyal cheerleader. He’s also a producer and musician so he gives great advice and is always my much-needed voice of reason when I need it. There’s no way I’d be able to do this music thing without his support!
