We talked life, love, music, and Costco hotdogs with the incorrigible Kahone Concept
No other artist in probably the history of music has had the same blend of thoughtful writing, an effortlessly engaging indie pop sound, and what seems to be a fixation on Costco hotdogs in the same way that (apparently) 56-year-old Kahone Concept does. Blessed with these three ideals, the artist has carved out a following for himself, especially since the 2020 quarantine-era, aiming to document his life through his sound, making for some really interesting and memorable pieces of work.
His latest release ‘Amicably’ provides us with a candid and often quite vulnerable assessment of himself following a break-up, exploring his emotions as he comes to terms with the situation and seeks to better himself. The track is just the latest glimpse into the life of the artist and continues to establish the engaging charisma of the artist and his reflective, memorable writing. We love the ambition and scope of the Kahone Concept project, and caught up with him to talk a little more about life, music and Costco hotdogs. (I have a gut feeling that some of the things he says in this interview might not be true.)
Who TF is Kahone Concept?
A 56 year old man who is on TikTok and also single handedly trying to take Costco out of business buy buying and eating all their underpriced hotdogs. I also do music, but at this point it feels like everyone and their mother makes music lol.
How long have you been making music?
Since 1969 but specifically since I was like in third grade. I picked up a guitar and started immediately playing Sweet Home Alabama and since then have never looked back.
Why do you make music?
To document my life. Each song is like a little journal entry. Eventually by the time I die, you’ll be able to listen to my stuff and it will be like a little autobiography, except with more pictures and sounds and less words. I am more of an audiobook kinda guy, I am very bad at reading.
What are your biggest influences?
The kind of people you meet that you’re just like, wow thats a really nice and kind person, I wish I could be as kind, cool and patient as them.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
I would say waking up tomorrow. I’ll be the best and most experienced I have ever been!
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
If Coldplay and the Script had a baby with Kings of Leon and then only let the kid listen to 21 pilots and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Rich, lots of friends and family, lots of music, and dying inside a Costco with two hotdogs in my hand.
We love your new single ‘Amicably’, what more can you tell us about it?
Long story made short, I have been a bad boyfriend in the past and got dumped. I was fed up with myself and not being able to be vulnerable and show the ones that I love, I love and care about them, so I decided to make a big change in my life. Part of being vulnerable is leaving it all on the table for others to know. I used to be really secretive about my feelings and this song was my way of saying holy crap I’m hurting inside.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
More music, more hotdogs and hopefully new friends like you Kieran!
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
I like to think that there is someone way out there deep in southern Europe that REALLY likes what I do.
