We had a chat with rising New York indie pop artist Laura Lederer following the release of her rousing fifth single ‘Breathe’
Since emerging back in March with her rousing debut single ‘I Forgive’, New York singer and guitarist Laura Lederer has been steadily establishing herself as an artist with a fresh and modern approach to contemporary indie pop, creating dynamic soundscapes and thoughtful narratives that are packed with both style and substance as she develops her sound and hones her craft.
The artist’s fifth and most recent single ‘Breathe’ is the latest showcase of her innate appeal and charm, a personally charged and moving track that delves into the struggles of balancing life’s demands and searching for these moments of solace and peace along the way in poignant fashion. This marriage of upbeat, catchy songwriting and resonating lyrics is a winning formula that makes for a litany of memorable moments, allowing for Laura to connect with listeners on a profound and rousing level. We love the new single, and had a chat with Laura to find out a bit more about the fledgling artist’s journey and what else she has planned for the future.
Who TF is Laura Lederer?
I’m a singer-songwriter, producer, pop artist.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been writing songs since the pandemic and I started recording and producing them a few years ago.
Why do you make music?
I like expressing certain feelings and emotions I have through my songs. Music is a great way to communicate this. I’m hoping my music can have a positive impact on people by letting them know that they aren’t the only ones feeling this way, and that they can get through it and overcome.
What are your biggest influences?
Musically, I’ve got a lot of influences, from Madonna, to Brittany Spears to Selena Gomez.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
That’s hard to say because I’ve had so many amazing moments so far, from seeing my first song on Spotify to hearing my first song on the radio to watching my first music video on YouTube to playing my songs in front of a live audience. I’m experiencing new best moments all the time.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
That’s also really tough. I’d like to think I’m bringing a completely new sound to the world. There’s definitely some alt pop, synth pop, electro pop and pop rock in parts of my songs. I’m taking some classic sounds and putting a modern mix on them.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Another toughie.
That’s constantly being refined. Maybe when I have my first tour booked? My immediate goal is to try to get my music heard by as many fans as possible. I love connecting with people who enjoy my music and are positively impacted by it.
We love your single ‘Breathe’, what more can you tell us about it?
Breathe is all about taking a step back and trying to calm down when the pressures of life feel like they’re too much to handle. I think the music really encapsulates those feelings through the power of those guitars and synths, combined with my heartfelt vocals.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I’ll be releasing new singles through 2025 and may put out an album then.
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
My family, for sure! They have been so supportive of me. It’s been a blessing!
