The track sees the artist examining the give and take of modern relationships.
“Two ain’t always better than one.” ALITA says in the chorus brand new release ‘It Takes Two’, and the sentiment is felt pretty much throughout the track.
Accompanied by a creative and always interesting instrumental backdrop, the artist riffs on the ideas of relationships and how much damage negative and toxic ones can actually do. The idea centers around this idea that both people need to pull their weight and this unfortunately can often not be the case, leaving one person feeling exasperated and exhausted. Fortunately, musically the track will leave you feeling neither, with its energetic and bouncy rhythms, and effortless catchiness serving as a breath of fresh air among its more troubling and cautionary lyrics.
“Over the last few years I’ve gotten a little smarter and more self-aware, and that’s helped me realize how much I allowed that toxicity to exist in my life.” ALITA says of the track. “It’s not to make excuses for other people’s poor behavior, but it’s a reflection on my own participation in people and situations that have hurt me. I’m really proud of It Takes Two because it’s a song that was written and finished quickly and effortlessly, and it takes a look at the common theme of a break up from a little wiser angle. I hope it encourages people to look at their own relationships and what they participate in from a different perspective.”
