Do not slide into ASHS’ DM’s.
‘Don’t Call Me’ sees electronic pop star ASHS at her soaring best, melding her cutting, fierce songwriting with indelible indie pop hooks and melodies. The track is a bittersweet riot, with the artist crafting an unforgiving anthem to exes trying to get back in touch.
Aside from the tracks angular juxtaposition, there is a lot to love for a multitude of reasons. Thoughtful songwriting, a memorable and harrowing horror-inspired music video, and if you’re not looking for a rich and rewarding experience, the track itself is ridiculously memorable and catchy just as a slice of dark-pop fun. There is something for any and all fans of pop music here. Being told to stay away has never sounded so good.
On writing the track and the thought behind the messaging of the video, ASHS explains, “Writing “Don’t Call Me” was a therapeutic experience. It was me being confident enough in my growth to say, “if you change your mind, keep it to yourself.” I wanted to make the video as bold as the statement. I thought of the most extreme phone call I would never want to get, and ran with that, allowing myself to be a teeny bit vengeful. Okay, maybe more than a teeny bit.”
