The track is the artist’s first release since her lauded 2022 EP Harmless Fun.
Belot‘s brand of alternative pop is laced with so much personality and the artist’s unique, awkward charm that it feels instantly recognisable in a sea of creative and talented artists that saturate the scene.
The latest release from the North London artist is ‘Cool Whip’, a relatable release about people in relationships who try to cover over their guilt and bad behaviours with things like gifts and grand gestures. The bouncy, insatiably fun nature of Belot’s sound is on full display here, both through the vibrancy of her vocals and the glittering, colourful soundscapes that the artist have made something of a trademark. ‘Cool Whip’ is packed full of personality, charm and the unique, off-kilter appeal and charisma that Belot has made her own.
Adding about ‘Cool Whip’, she said, “Cool whip is about being in a relationship with someone who initially seems caring and extremely generous, but down the line you come to realise that every gift and or kind gesture was a cover up for yet another affair or slip up. I’ve had a few friends over the years that eventually discovered spontaneous flowers could also be red flags. So I always thought it would be interesting to write about the sort of dynamic, where the nicer the gift, the worse the crime.”
