Latest release ‘Get Mad’ is a continuation of the artist’s penchant to craft sounds with a complete disregard for genre convention, following his own rules with invariably stellar results. It is a rallying cry for the younger generation to make some kind of gesture and take a stand against climate change. The cutting edge new track has a bit of disco in there, a bit of 70s rock and roll, and Ben’s now trademark punk edge. This cocktail, while perplexing on paper, mixes to create a really fun, engaging and dancey sound. Ben Kidson’s biggest strength lies in his ability to make statements with his unique arrangements, tying together elements in unconvential ways to create something to feels seamless, and ‘Get Mad’ is another winning example of how to push and pull the foundations of his sound.
