Cool Sounds deliver the funk on ‘Vice’

It sounds, er, COOL 😎

It sounds, er, COOL 😎

Indie outfit Cool Sounds do what they say on the tin; their newest single ‘Vice’ is as funky and as ice cold as they come.

Taken from the lockdown compilation album Stay Inside: Songs From the Great Indoors – a collection of demos and b-sides from Australian labels Hotel Motel Records, Dinosaur City Records, Osborne Again, Spunk, Blossom Rot and Inertia – the collection sees the proceeds split between contributing artists to help them financially through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Slicker than the sound we’re more accustomed to yet just as chilled, ‘Vice’ takes audible stock from 80s pop with its bright synths and irresistibly funky disco bassline. Offset with slinky guitars and cooed vocals, it is undeniably catchy – oh, and there’s some sax too!

Writer Dainis Lacey wrote the track about searching for a sense of identity and belonging, and “wanted to do something that was super different from other Cool Sounds material, and have always liked getting inspiration from the cheesier side of music. There’s something I find really comforting yet subversive about working with daggy tones”.

‘Vice’ is available now via Hotel Motel. The compilation Stay Inside – Songs From the Great Indoors is available now via Bandcamp.
