It follows their recent release ‘Empty Streets’…

South African band Diamond Thug are back with their stomping new single ‘Backpush’. The track follows their recent release ‘Empty Streets’.

Much beloved in their home country for their delectable dream pop sound, ‘Backpush’ deviates towards the band’s own love of 00s pop punk and the simple, catchy rhythms of the sub-genre. Underpinned by a sturdily stomping beat, the track is bolstered by a pulsing bassline and the cosmic vocal melodies of singer Chantal Van T. Before you know it, you’re enveloped by ‘Backpush’s arresting grip.

“’Backpush’ is a song about feeling stuck in a self-destructive cycle of one’s own mistakes and self-doubt,” explain the band of the inspiration behind the track. “It’s about staring at the sun in the depth of winter, coming to terms with one’s imperfection and opting for a more playful attitude in accepting that we habitually fuck up and may continue to do so but that’s part of human nature.

“We make mistakes,” they continue. “This song is a big release of the pent up frustration of feeling stuck”.

‘Backpush’ is available now via Kudukudu Records.
