The rising Irish artist embodies a liberating and carefree appeal on his first single of 2024
Over the last few years, rising alternative Irish folk singer-songwriter Dotts O’Connor has been establishing a thoughtful and distinctive take on the genre that is packed full of intrigue and character, embodied by his intricate guitar fingerpicking and the joyful melodies that inundate his tracks.
The latest single from the artist is ‘Brushing off the Rust’, a track rich in appeal and the distinctive quirks that make him feel so refreshing and unique, down to his compelling songwriting and his aforementioned guitar playing. The narrative has an uplifting and warm tone to it, exploring two people leaving everything behind to take to the road to begin a period of rejuvenation, reflection and wilful disregard. This sense of catharsis and liberation is echoed through the carefree and flowing nature of the artist’s nuanced sound, allowing listeners to dream and get swept away in the same way that our protagonists of the story have.
On the recording of the song, Dotts says “I wanted to capture the unfeathered joy of the couple as they emerge from hardship and put all sorrow in the rearview mirror so I ensured that we didn’t do too many takes of the song and tried to keep the recording process fresh and immediate without giving too many directions to the musicians.”
