The track is the first single from their upcoming debut EP Turn Again and Come Back.
Having never actually met in real life, Vancouver-based musician Alejandro Zarazua and Johannesburg-based vocalist Hayley Chewins formed EIGHT THOUSAND BIRDS in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly found a fruitful partnership, crafting intricate and thoughtful alternative pop together in seamless fashion. That has led up to now, with the duo set to release their debut EP Turn Again and Come Back on Februrary 14th.
The first single from the release is the stunning and haunting ‘Blue House’, an instantly memorable, deeply personal track that is as immersive and captivating as anything you’re likely to hear soon. From it’s gorgeous, atmospheric melodies to the transfixing, almost hypnotic quality of Hayley’s vocals, this track holds you tight from the moment that it begins and never lets go, showcasing the beauty that the pair can create despite their unique circumstances.
“I’m a novelist, and this song started out as a story idea,” says HayIey. “I wanted to write about a woman who was trying to drive away from a house and couldn’t; no matter how far she drove, she always ended up back in the driveway. When I realized it was a song, it poured out of me in one go. It’s about our relationship with the past and how sometimes something happens to you that you just can’t close the door on.”
