The track is from the artist’s upcoming new EP Paper Wealth
With her first new release since her 2022 debut album The Sargasso Season Yukon-based orchestral folk musician Erica Dee Mah continues to showcase her expansive and engrossing sound on her enchanting new single ‘The Garden’, the lead single from her new EP Paper Wealth set for release on May 8th.
The track is a rousing tale of resilience and strength, using the titular garden as a symbol of such with the way that it perseveres and continues to thrive and grow throughout time and differing conditions. The subtleties and sheer depth of the sound make for an endlessly engrossing listening experience, one that unravels different layers and textures on repeat listens, further cementing the artist’s genius and the stirring appeal of her deeply thoughtful sound. The track is a really glowing showcase of what is to come from the EP, and an expansive reminder of what she is capable of.
“I see the garden as a symbol of long-lasting cultural resilience,” says Erica. “I was inspired to write the song after visiting the new Chinese-Canadian museum in 2021 with my brother and seeing how much the Chinatown community was struggling.”
