The track is the outfit’s first release since 2021s Obsessions.
Since the release of their self titled debut EP in 2021, hard rock trio Fire by Night have been on a steady incline as they continue to establish their sound that melds heavy riffs with indelible, catchy melodies and hooks.
The outfit’s latest showcase of this sound is ‘Menagerie’, their first release of 2022. Boasting a raw cutting edge, and a soaring chorus that is sure to find a way to stick around in your head, the outfit possess a sound that it is easy to picture dominating a stage at Slam Dunk Festival or at somewhere like the late Warped Tour (RIP). The track was written by guitarist Skippy, who joins Kai Vander Maten in singing the chorus, showcasing the effortlessly chemistry that the two, along with drummer Faith Powell share. ‘Menagerie’ is an impactful track that showcases both the beauty and the beast within Fire by Night’s sound.
Speaking of the track, the outfit said “Saying, ‘I am Menagerie’ as opposed to ‘I am in a menagerie’ or ‘part of a menagerie’ became a way for Skippy to give his inner madness a name, personify it, and is what he considers his monster name.”
“[Skippy] felt like a puppet, like he was being forced to conform to the standards of his employer, and that he had to hide who he truly was,” the band continues. “There was a madness inside that wanted to come out, that he had to suppress, but that often showed itself whether he willed it to or not. The video illustrates how the madness inside will make its way out, and becomes more volatile as others try to force you to fit inside their box.”
