The Newcastle artist continues to showcase her atmospheric and immersive indie rock sound.
Feelings like self-doubt and frustration can often be channelled into making lasting and impactful art, and that is exactly what emerging Newcastle dreamgaze artist Hannah Robinson has done on her latest single ‘When I Was High’.
The track explores these feelings with a fearless sense of anger and fierceness, delving into the mind of her former self and running through a past romance in vulnerable and captivating fashion. From the immersive, thoughtful nature of the narrative to the dreamy and poignant feel to the atmospheric sound, ‘When I Was High’ is a potent exploration of feeling intoxicated by someone and the delusion that comes with it, and paints a powerful cautionary tale for listeners. The end result is a shoegazy, indie rock banger that is steeped in tension and a distinctly vibey appeal and charm, highlighting the storytelling prowess and distinctive flair of Hannah Robinson and her captivating sound.
“I fell into this delusion of wanting to feel loved by someone to the point where I got completely absorbed by it.” Hannah says of the track. “With all this anger I felt, I had to interpret it musically which is why this track perfectly captures that emotional build up I had brewing inside. ‘When I Was High’ is for those who have felt lead on, who didn’t know where they stood o r what they stood for , it’s for those who s it and question their relationships and need that honest reminder that if they wanted to, they would, and don’t settle for any less than what you deserve.”
