Swansea outfit Hot Mass are a band that have been gradually making a name for themselves with their impactful and exciting brand of punk-edged alternative rock. Their new single ‘Astroturf’ sees the outfit return for the first time in a few years to mark the start of an exciting new album cycle.

The track is stacked full of grit and energy, from its chunky riffs to the delectable melodies that are found throughout. Hot Mass do a great job of finding the balance between bringing the noise and having a really nice, accessible sense of composure and charm. ‘Astroturf’ features wondering guitars, a wild sense of earnest, youthful abandon, and most importantly, a memorable sense of chaotic fun that permeates the sound throughout.

“It’s the first single from our new album, so it feels like a time to celebrate new musical avenues.” Guitarist and vocalist Rhys Jenkins says. “Some of my all-time favourite songs are those from the college-rock era. The song embodies the punk-derived sonic textures that we love, but I wanted to pay homage to the early college/indie rock era and the free-floating guitar parts that are a staple of those genres. Bands such as Pixies or The Replacements really know how to write a melancholic song whilst still being upbeat. I really like that combination.”
