Alongside the release of her highly-awaited sophomore EP ‘Afterlife’, rising folk-pop artist Juliana Madrid has also released a captivating new music video for her new single ‘Satisfied’, an immersive and candid release that touches on themes of darkness despite the sunny exterior of the artist’s sound.

The track deals with a narrative that feels all too prevalent in modern society, a with the artist looking back bitterly on a drunken interaction with somebody she met at a party. The specifics are a little bit unsavoury and covered in the track, but are masked powerfully by the expansive, nostalgic sound that the artist possesses that manages to feel simultaneously both fresh and exciting while having a foot firmly in her more traditional, Texan roots. Juliana’s biting writing style and upbeat humour keep a track that could have felt unsettlingly dark more sardonic while still providing to be a cathartic expression of frustration, making for a release that feels three dimensional and multi-faceted, showcasing the depth and range of Juliana Madrid’s potent style.

About the making of ‘Satisfied’. Juliana says “I remember coming up with the main progression in the chorus and humming the melody over it when I had a moment to myself in Ben’s basement studio. I brought it to him the next day and we spent the entire day sitting on his living room carpet filling in the blanks, finding the right words and meaning. Recording the skeleton of the song was a really fun process and one of my favorite things is the backup vocals and claps Ben and I did that turned into this little janky but very cute sample throughout the song. The thing that really made this song next level to me though is when James [Patterson aka JPatt] came in and shredded the bass line. It’s so sick and really made it feel like a thing. I love this song.”
