The track is from the celebrated Canadian artist’s upcoming third album
With the release of her upcoming third LP just around the corner, Madisyn Gifford has provided a welcome reminder of her tender and immersive sound with the release of her latest single ‘Fast One’, a track about the all too familiar feelings that come with being ghosted and left in the dark, and the impact that it can leave.
This is a theme that many listeners will relate to and resonate with, a scenario that is both universal and recognisable but deeply personality and specific in the way that it makes you feel and the toll that it can take. The stripped-back nature of the instrumentation and Madisyn’s candid vocal delivery just add to how authentic and lived this experience feels and the honesty makes for compelling listening. The Canadian artist has always had a gift for conveying experiences and feelings in atmospheric fashion through her sound, and this is just the latest shining showcase of that deftness.
On the track, Madisyn shares: “I wrote the song “Fast One” about 2 years ago after getting ghosted by a guy I liked. Relatable I know. The song is essentially about all of the feelings of sadness, shame, and betrayal that can often come from situations like that but also the humour that can come out of them as well. It’s funny how often times it’s the 2 month situationship that hurts more than the long term breakup, and this song is me pointing that out. Sonically we also wanted to highlight those contrasting emotions in the production. I think in the song you can sense the hurt but it also feels a bit tongue in cheek which is exactly what we wanted!”
