The track is the lauded Canadian artist’s first release of 2024
On her stunning folk-pop release ‘Seventeen’, Vancouver’s Madisyn Gifford continues to showcase the alluring appeal and thoughtful charm that has made so many fall in love with the engrossing artist already, capable of putting together relatable thoughts and feelings in a way that feels resonating and real.
The new single explores the sheer excitement and euphoria that comes with young love, the uncontrollable urges to do little things to capture their attention and the way that the world feels like it literally all revolves around this little situation that you have found yourself in. It also contrasts this with how it feels to have all of these feeling rush back when you meet somebody new as an adult, sending you right back where you were all those years ago with not a thing you can do about it. There is a really intimate and playful feel to the track that feels rewarding and warm, and it does a great job of taking you to those special places and feelings in your mind that you can attach to those memories explored.
On the release, Madisyn shares: ““Seventeen” is a song about that middle school feeling we all get when we’re first falling for someone of wanting to walk up to your crush poke them and then run away. through writing it I was essentially exploring the fear, excitement, and also embarrassment of having a crush on someone now as an adult instead of as teenager, feeling like I’m “seventeen” again. My producer Jared Manierka and I also explored a lot more country and folk influences on this track which is something I was so excited to do because I’ve been wanting to make music like this for so long! This song makes me smile big time in all of its earnesty and I’m so excited to share it!”
