Since emerging in 2021, meadowhip has been gradually establishing her engaging alt-pop sound, building a growing audience for her thoughtful lyrics and effortlessly gorgeous soundscapes with each new release from the artist.
The fourth of her releases is new single ‘Am I Broken’, a track full of seductive grooves and hypnotic, funk-laden bass lines. The track showcases a more R&B-tinged flavour to the artist’s sound that has a really magical and rousing effect, with everything from her lush harmonies to the soft texture of her voice crafting a sound that feels serene and easy to find yourself immersed and lost within. The track’s lyrics have a slightly more troubled nature, providing something of a counterpoint to her previous single ‘Iconic’. The track explores the idea of being problematic and difficult within a relationship, the blunt nature of the lyrics “Am I broken? Fuck yes” feels neutered by the softness of the sound though, making for a cute juxtaposition and a really engaging track.
