Brazilian singer-songwriter Ana Galeli showcases her elegant indie pop sound on rousing new track ‘Stay’
Inspired by Nu-disco and synth-pop and compared to artists such as Lana Del Rey, MARINA, and Mallu Magalhães, Ana Galeli is a unique and captivating artist who is richly deserving of such lofty praise.
As the comparisons suggest, Ana is not an artist that makes straightforward contemporary pop. Her melancholic and often sultry sound is creatively rich and specific to the artists own experiences. Her latest offering ‘Stay’ is a prime example this, and serves as further proof that the artist is fast on the rise with its improbably mixture of captivating infectiousness and sombre introspection.
“When we recorded ‘Stay’ at Interference Paris, all I could think about was how much I wanted to stay in France. So, I did.” Ana told us of the track. “‘Stay’ is an ode to being allegiant to your own decisions. So many times, people want to influence or change your desires. You either let them, or you take possession of your stance and give birth to your plan.”
‘Stay’ is a triumphant example of everything that Ana Galeli does well. It is sombre at times, but has a sharp electro-pop edge that keeps things ticking over and offsets this with an overwhelming sense of fun. There is a unique facet to Ana’s sound that can be hard to put your finger on. There is a truly unique Ana Galeli DNA that is intertwined with each of her releases, which ensures that they stand out and whirr around your head for days.
Ana looks to have hit it out of the park on her latest effort, and with an EP in the periphery, you can imagine that its not going to be the last time that she does in 2020.
