“Lay Our Cards” is the exceptional new single from psychedelic songwriter Barnaby Keen
Multi-talented artist Barnaby Keen is an artist that refuses to be left in the shadows.
Returning with his debut release in collaboration with Plum Cuts, a new South London based label, “Lay Our Cards” tells the story of a turbulent relationship under strain.
Recorded with the help from his brother Nathanial on bass and additional production, this family affair is psychedelic and armed with lo-fi indie sensibilities throughout.
Speaking about the visuals, Barnaby states, “I set out to put some visuals to this song and finish it in a short space of time. I collected some images that moved me in some way and made a composition from it.
The mechanical drum beat made me think of industrial scenes and the lightness of the chorus chords said ‘birds in flight’ to me so I cut them together.
The way we form our own narratives when confronted with words, pictures and music is essentially what we’re doing in our everyday lives. Trying to make sense of objectively nonsensical experiences. This collage will no doubt evoke some interesting interpretations and add a new dimension to the song. Also some of the dancing is quite funny.”
Visually imaginative and engaging, ‘Lay Our Cards’ is an enchanting release both visually and for your ears.
