Stirring singer-songwriter Brandon Grant taps into his most immersive and personal side on his compelling new single ‘Knowing’
Cape Town based indie-folk singer-songwriter Brandon Grant is somebody who has fast established a reputation for crafting deeply poignant and immersive sounds that delve into the introspective and personal, with his charismatic allure and natural flair for storytelling making for a catalogue of tracks that have a profound effect on you as a listener and lull you into his creative and engrossing sonic world.
The latest single from the artist is ‘Knowing’, the title-track from his upcoming debut album and a stellar showcase of everything we’ve mentioned so far. The track is an exploration of the artist’s relationship with himself, and something of a reminder of the way he has built it to where it is now and to maintain it and keep it healthy. There has always been a struggle between the pressures that society puts on you and what you know is right and needed for yourself, and Brandon bridges that conflict in stirring fashion on the new release. The track, recorded and produced entirely by the artist himself, has the kind of authenticity and sincerity that the artist has made his own, and the rawness of the vocals and earnest nature of the soundscape make for a listening experience that feels as personal and real as anything you’re likely to hear.
“I was at the end of writing my album and, quite frankly, running out of creative juice.” Brandon says of the track. “Amidst the frustration of having written a couple of pretty bad songs, I told myself, “Okay, one more song. No matter how bad it is, just write.” That’s how ‘Knowing’ came to be—a song that surprised me and tied together the whole album and its concepts, all at once.”
