‘Kids on Junk’ is a creative and immersive debut single from emerging Brighton artist Cal Lynn
Having cut his teeth as a member of Brighton alternative outfit Toyz, Cal Lynn has stepped out on his own and showcased a distinctive, charismatic appeal with the release of his debut solo single ‘Kids on Junk’. The track does a really great job of showcasing the creativity and intricacies of the artist and its sound, melding nostalgic tones of the 70s and 80s with a more modern, cutting edge appeal, buoyed by the artist’s DIY, self-produced approach and unmistakable presence as a vocalist.
‘Kids on Junk’ thematically explores the all too common phenomenon of young people experimenting with harmful substances and developing addictions and demons as a means of finding some kind of escapism, losing their sense of self in the process but holding onto love as a means of grounding them. This nuanced theme does a great job of elevating the already interesting track, with genres as varied as folk and glam rock informing the truly one-of-a-kind appeal that the artist has. The track is just the debut single from the artist, and with the kind of scope and adventure that he has demonstrated on the release, we look forward to see where else he takes this sound and what else Cal Lynn has in store.
