Depression, Mom reveal indie infused contender ‘Once in California’
Genre-bending outfit Depression, Mom release an exceptional new single ‘Once in California’.
Inspired by music from the 1960s, there’s certainly a revival sound within the new track.
Speaking about the new release, Depression, Mom shares, “I wrote the refrain when I was 5 years old (I am 31 now). My brother’s name is ‘Mattew Michael’ and I wrote the melody for him.
It feels very rewarding to be able to finally bring a song I wrote when I was 5 years old into fruition after all of these years.
In the studio, Nick Krill and I referenced the Lawrence Welk show throughout the recording process.
We coined a term called ‘The Welk Stack’ which meant we stacked layers of female vocals on top of one another to copy the choir of female vocalists that performed on the Lawerence Welk show.
Produced by Nick Krill (War on Drugs, Dove and the Wolf, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah), the track is best described as addictive and your new daily drug.
