Alternative starlet Deva St. John returns with captivating new pop-rock single ‘Pity Party’
Receiving praise from BBC Introducing and sites across the web, Deva St. John is back with captivating new single ‘Pity Party’.
Jam-packed with attitude and grit, this explosive alternative-rock track has multiple personalities but still feels completely sane.
Blending between pop and rock throughout, there are multiple changes in mood and atmosphere, with her swooning vocal and hook-ridden guitars keeping you drawn from the first second.
Heavily influenced by Paramore and Alanis Morisette, Deva St. John has certainly moulded herself into an alt-rock-pop artist who has been hotly tipped by many in the industry to go right to the top.
Speaking about the new release, Deva shares, “Pity Party is a bit of a genre-hopper. It’s an amalgamation of my more commercial influences.
Lyrically depressing, yet tonally bright. It’s a bouncy tune for the overthinking & introverted. It’s about making lemonade out of lemons, I guess. Turning something shitty into something positive.
I wanted each section of the song to portray another stage in someone’s process of acceptance. The denial of & just a speedbump, it’ll be fine to I’m depressed, I don’t know what to do I’m pissed off! Why is this happening!? to oh yeah.
That was really tough, but it is okay. I wrote Pity Party when I was having some serious career doubts. I was worried I was taking on too much and terrified I’d never achieved what I’m capable of. Writing this song was a big step in me getting out of my own way.”
“Pity Party” is out everywhere tomorrow, but hear it exclusively at the top of the page!
