Laurel Smith unleashes cinematic dark-pop anthem ‘Out the Cage’
Best described as a track that doesn’t want to be barricaded away, dark-pop artist Laurel Smith returns with her first offering of the year, ‘Out the Cage’.
The North-London based rising star is certainly turning heads with her ambitious music, ‘Out the Cage’ cements this as a fact.
A moody offering with an innovative production, Laurel’s effortless performance is out of this world.
Sharing her thoughts on the release, Laurel states, “Out The Cage’ is a song about breaking out from your constraints, both physical and mental.
Although it can be interpreted in any way, when I wrote it I created a story around a bored housewife, falling out of love with her husband, she fantasises about tying him up and leaving him to be a badass assassin in a video game type world, roaming the city at night and living a life of unpredictability and excitement”.
An edgy tale that interprets breaking away from feeling restricted, this explosive number refuses to follow the crowd.
Unlike anything you’ll hear around at the moment, this track is somewhere between smooth R&B, electro-pop, trap and hazy-indie – what more could you possibly want?
“Out the Cage” is out worldwide tomorrow, but you can watch and listen to the electrifying release at the top of the page – go on, treat yourself!
