Baltimore alternative outfit Mean Sea shine on their first release in over five years
The January 6th 2017 release of their debut EP Sorry We’re Late was the last time that we heard anything from Baltimore’s Mean Sea, an outfit who carved out a reputation for themselves on the alternative scene for their unique take on punk-tinged, pop-laced alternative rock.
Tomorrow, the outfit are set to end this wait of over five years for new music with the release of their excellent new single ‘Puke Mouth’, and here on CLOUT you can hear it a day early. The track is a rousing showcase of a band who haven’t lost a step in their time away. From its catchy sensibilities to the raw cutting edge of its crunching guitars, to the ever-thoughtful nature of the lyrics and themes, the track slots effortlessly alongside the more modern work of artists like PUP and Jeff Rosenstock. ‘Puke Mouth’ is a wonderful re-introduction to the band, and with a new EP set for release in early 2023, hopefully they kick on and really begin to establish themselves in their second coming.
“Hindsight is 20/20; and rose colored.” Mean Sea’s Michael Strackbein says of the track. “Maybe it wasn’t exactly as you remembered it. Maybe you’re better now because of it. Things will never be the same and that’s alright. You’re alright. I’m alright”
