London based singer-songwriter and guitarist Rosie Frater-Taylor unveils gorgeous new single ‘Hey’
Taken from her forthcoming second album ‘Bloom’, ‘Hey‘ is an exceptional blend of jazz, folk, pop and soul. Refusing to be limited to one style of music, London based singer-songwriter and guitarist Rosie Frater-Taylor oozes with talent.
Gaining praise from BBC Radio 1’s Abbie McCarthy, BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and magazines across the globe, ‘Hey’ feels like the perfect introduction into Rosie’s story.
Sharing her thoughts on the release, Rosie explains, “Around the time I wrote ‘Hey’ I was listening to a lot of Knower and Louis Cole which inspired the breathy, layered vocals, quite dramatic harmonic shifts and use of more electric instruments. I’d also cite some alt-pop artists as influences for the arrangement and vibe of this track i.e. Janelle Monae, Becca Stevens and Emily King.
I started with the picked guitar riff and built everything else around this including the lead vocal which lands in sync with the main guitar part. I wanted the track to flow and build really naturally. When I got my band to add their individual (crucial !) bass, keys and drum parts it all came together.”
A soulful track that requires a beverage of some sort in one hand while you bathe in the sunshine. Gloriously original and distinctive to Rosie, the new single pays ode to Rosie’s strong jazz roots.
Described as a ‘badass’ by songstress Becca Stevens, you can regularly hear Rosie performing in venues such as Ronnie Scott’s.
Destined to be on a stage, Rosie Frater-Taylor is going to be a huge star in the world of soul-jazz, and you heard it here first.
‘Hey’ is out worldwide tomorrow, and it’s a virtuoso number that uses playful pop melodies and multi-layered soundscapes.
