Female fronted The NYChillharmonic drop first, hard rock single ‘Mean’ off their forthcoming album
Brooklyn-based, 18 piece orchestra The NYChillharmonic specialise in progressive-jazz meets indie-rock. Fronted by vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Sara McDonald, the collective release ‘Mean’ tomorrow worldwide, off their forthcoming album.
Sara said that, “Mean was written in the middle of the night, two days before The NYChillharmonic was scheduled to headline at (le) Poisson Rouge in NYC. The full orchestration, including top-line and lyrics, was written in one sitting during an unusual burst of vivid inspiration.
Mean is a sonically massive, orchestral-rock piece that features chugging guitar and bass lines, anthemic vocals, swirling strings and horns, and thrashing drums. The song navigates through a fusion of genres while wildly yet, seamlessly moving from section to section, bounding through the narrative and sonic arcs to an emotionally epic finish.”
Jumping through universes of genres you didn’t think would work together, ‘Mean’ isn’t following any instructions. Creating something completely original, the experimental number will be cherished by many fans of different genres. A 5-minute wonder of solid arranging and a powerful force within the band’s repertoire to date.
