That’s When The Panic Sets In releases in full on September 23rd.
It’s been said over and over on this site, but one of our stand out emerging artists over the last few years has been ROE, a prodigious Derry singer-songwriter who seems to delve into more personal and intimate territory with each and every release.
The latest of which is ‘Cut My Teeth’, an track that finds the artist as introspective and thoughtful as ever, trying to dig herself out of a mental hole and find her own light at the end of the tunnel. The track writhes around in the artist’s psyche and provides a stark glimpse into her thoughts and feelings, providing an intimate window into this unseen side of herself. As often is the case with her work, this provides a real message of defiance and inspiration that listeners can attach themselves to and find strength in. Message and emotional depth aside, the artist’s sound itself is as gorgeous and powerful as ever here, with some of her slower, more stripped-back moments of late providing some of ROE’s most captivating and devastating moments. The artist seems to find a way to remain both vulnerable and immeasurably powerful with each coming release, and this strength in the face of adversity should provide a beacon for others to find solace in.
“I wrote ‘Cut My Teeth’ when I was in a really dark place and felt the need to write to remind myself that it wasn’t a permanent state. This song is about how incredible it is that we get to be alive. It was an emotional one to record but I’m putting it on the album because writing it made me feel hopeful and I want other people to feel that too.”
