With a emo-tinged indie rock sound that feels like a British take on the earnest output of artists like Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms, School Trips have carved out a niche for themselves with their jangly, conversational sound that bleeds with a rawness and authenticity that feels refreshing and just quite nice.

On their latest release, the excellently titled ‘Your Dad’s Crap At Football’, the outfit tackle the nuances and mental health, especially when trying to find yourself as a young adult at university and everything that comes with it. There is a tonne of charm and personality to the sound, and relatable lyrics about pressures and struggling are sure to resonate with a generation of people who have often felt abandoned and left to themselves.

‘Your Dad’s Crap At Football’ feels like a distinctly British, lived in experience. Draped in nostalgia and evoking feelings, both good and bad, of being a lost young person growing up. The folk-tinged harmonies and its endearing, sing-along chorus make for some really rousing moments though, and if it gets too sad or too real at times, there will hopefully be a “ba ba baaa” around the corner sometime soon to distract yourself with.

“We’ve been trying to get this one out for years.” Guitarist/vocalist Liam Lambert says “The first time we played it was at a folk-punk show in a church in York, and we had every single pew singing-along like it was some kind of holy FA Cup Final. It took getting Sam (drummer) and Josh (bassist) on board to flesh out the sound and really achieve the big, folksy vibe we’d always dreamed of.”
