The talented artist continues to reinvent his already wholly unique style.
As he continues to explore through the sonic intricacies and creative ideas that he has for his unique bedroom pop sound, Derby’s sfven somehow manages to keep coming up with new ways to make his sound feel both endlessly fun and exciting while maintaining a lush, accessible edge.
The latest release from the artist is ‘no captain’, a track that sees the artist’s more experimental tendencies come to the fore with a range of different samples and synths put together in a way that feels honestly much more harmonious and compelling that it has any right to. When compounded with the thoughtful and poignant nature of his lyrics and just the sheer personality and charm that is poured into the sound, the track is another home run from sfven, and another string to his ever-growing bow of compelling tracks that feel quite unlike anything else you’ll hear anytime soon.
“‘No Captain’ started with us just throwing paint at a canvas and putting in very random sounds from a collection of voice notes and synths. My favourite voice note we used was a Tibetan singing bowl, which is the airy synth sound used in verse 2. We generally just had a lot of fun making this. The lyrics for this song came around from mumbling melodies and sounds until we got something that felt right. After sitting with it for a while now I think it’s about letting someone into your life and just acknowledging how much they enrich and do for you, having someone to help steer the ship I guess. But yeh, we had a blast making this and I hope you love it!”
