’75” TV Screen’ is an engaging cautionary tale from exciting Brighton outfit SLANT

Do you live within your means?

Do you live within your means?

Quirky and exciting Brighton-based quintet SLANT have been catching our eye over the few years with their thoroughly unique approach to crafting all-encompassing pieces of escapism that manages to feel both nostalgic and futuristic.

On their latest release ’75” TV Screen’ the outfit explore themes of consumerism, and the terrifying rise of technology and machines. Thankfully, this harrowing, cautionary tale is met with beautiful harmonies and infectious melodies that somewhat soften the blow of the impending end of society and humanity as we know it. The world may be in danger of alienating itself among a wash of machines, but at least the song is really pretty to listen to.

Lyricist & vocalist, Katy, says “’75” TV Screen’ is a song about the idea of the fall of humanity at the hands of technology. Unprecedented times in the last two years have made the idea of consumerism physically taking over humans not seem so alien. The song is a sardonic commentary on modern life. “Do you live within your means?” is a cry for help about how we’ve gone too far; how we could all live more sustainably and give some thought to our continual buying and consuming of material possessions.”
